This policy explains how the Citation Sleuth browser extension (“the extension”) handles data. It applies to anyone who installs the extension in the Chrome browser.

What the extension does
The extension records the web sources that the AI tools ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity cite when they answer your prompts. It displays those sources in a table so you can compare which sources each tool chose. This is its single purpose.

Data stored on your device
The extension stores captured citation data locally in your browser, in Chrome’s local storage area. This includes:

The prompts or search queries you enter in the supported AI tools.
The source URLs that those tools cite in response.
Which tool produced each result.
This data is stored on your own device. It is not sent to me, and it is not uploaded to any server I control.

Optional DataForSEO enrichment
The extension includes an optional enrichment feature. If you choose to use it, clicking the “Why?” button next to a source sends that source’s URL to DataForSEO, a third-party SEO data service, using a DataForSEO account that you provide.

This feature is entirely optional and opt-in. It only runs when you click the “Why?” button. It uses your own DataForSEO account and your own DataForSEO balance. DataForSEO’s handling of that request is governed by its own privacy policy and terms of service.

Your DataForSEO credentials
If you enter a DataForSEO email address and API key into the extension, those credentials are stored locally on your device in Chrome’s local storage. They are used only to make enrichment requests on your behalf. They are not transmitted to me, and they are not stored on any server I control.

What I collect and receive
I do not receive, collect, or store any data from the extension. The extension does not send captured citations, your prompts, your source URLs, or your DataForSEO credentials to me or to any server I operate.

Web history and tracking
The extension does not track your general browsing history. It only reads the cited source links that the supported AI tools display within their pages, and only while you are actively using those tools. The extension does not use cookies, advertising identifiers, or analytics.

How to clear your data
You can remove all captured data at any time using the “Clear Data” button in the extension’s viewer. You can also uninstall the extension entirely, which removes its stored data from your browser.
